PhD Journal

About

Welcome to the Blog

This space is for fellow PhD students—especially in the social sciences—who are navigating the emotional and intellectual highs and lows of academic life.

I started this blog while working on my dissertation, during one of those long, quiet stretches when the work felt never-ending and full of uncertainty. At times, I doubted everything—my questions, my path, and even whether I belonged in academia at all.

I had a breakdown in my second year, just before comps, and I felt incredibly isolated—especially when my family didn’t understand why it was taking so long. I often wished I had access to honest, unfiltered reflections from someone who was going through it too.

This blog is my attempt to offer that space: a place to share the small wins, the hard days, and the quiet lessons that don’t always make it into formal academic writing. I still publish journal articles—but here, I write the personal stuff. The things I wish I could’ve read when I needed them most.

If you’re on a similar journey, I hope these reflections offer comfort, clarity, or simply a reminder: you’re not alone.

Thanks for being here.
